Most Read Articles Index: How it is Composed
The main index of articles numbered from 1-125 was compiled strictly from hard Google Analytics 4 data on the number of unique page users each article in GWS Media and GWS Robotics attained during the period from July 11th, 2023, excepting known bots. The full Top 125 was first created on December 20th 2023, with data to December 19th. Position 1 represents the most read article and 125 the 125th most read. Because of time constraints, a full update will only now be undertaken once every 3-6 months.
The secondary index of older articles, numbered from 1-275, comprises mostly articles that ranked among the most viewed based on unique page views as recorded within Universal Analytics in the previous seven-year period but have not yet attained the threshold of unique page users required for inclusion in the new GA4-based shortlist. It also includes some very old articles that are of interest although they fell outside the threshold for inclusion in the older UA-based list.
To get the most out of this two indices, we suggest using the Find function on your device (on Windows, this would be CTRL-F) to search for keywords of interest.
Presentational Restoration of Older Articles
All articles predating August 2016 but dated May 7th 2010 or later were automatically transferred from our previous site at the time of the launch of the last one before the present one in August 2016. This accounts for the majority of the total archive.
Many of the articles imported from two earlier versions of our website (2010-2013 and 2013-2016) were found at an audit in 2019 to have some formatting and coding issues, resulting in poor layout and display on our new site. In a few cases, text was corrupted, with parts of the original text needing to be restored. Embedded videos, where present, often no longer played. Many images were unnecessarily small, and quite a few no longer displayed at all.
We have attempted since the summer of 2019 to restore to a decent standard of presentation all articles in the then-Top 210, and all outside it that were felt to be worth retaining.
In this restoration work, we have been limited only by the size of the largest available images and, in some cases, the non-availability of caches of the original versions of the articles. The work on presentationally restoring the selected older articles was completed on Monday 21st October, 2019.
Some articles, in the category of 'Weekly Roundup' posts about topical news of the time, were not felt worth presentationally restoring. When the website was again renewed around October 2023, the unrestored articles were unpublished. All remaining articles should therefore now be to a good standard of presentation.
Please note that we cannot guarantee the integrity of links to pages at external sites in older articles, and advise you to approach these links with discretion and due caution while enjoying our articles.
